Unlocked at Caterium Research - Geothermal Generator

The Geothermal Generator is a building that generates 200 MW of power when built on top of a Geyser. It requires no additional input, always operates and has priority over other sources of power (see below).

Geothermal Generators cannot be built on Geysers completely covered by Foundations. The Geyser's 'ring' has to be visible at the surface.

Usage[edit | edit source]

Each Geothermal Generator always produces power at its capacity regardless of power consumption.

There are 18 Geysers in total, which means a maximum of 3,600 MW can be produced. Geothermal Generators cannot be overclocked, possibly because their GUI is unfinished.

Power generation priority[edit | edit source]

The power generated from the Geothermal Generators has priority over all other kinds of power generation. For example, if is 600 MW of power provided by Geothermal Generators, and additional power from Biomass Burners, Coal Generators and/or Fuel Generators, and the total power usage drops below 600 MW, all generators beside Geothermal Generators will stop operating and consuming fuel; the power will be provided solely by geothermal power. This makes the Geothermal Generators highly desirable, and it is advised to connect them to the power grid for maximum efficiency.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Most Geysers are concentrated in the northern part of the map.
  • Each Geyser shoots out hot steam about every 20 seconds. The engineer is not damaged by this hot steam.
  • Geysers are the only resource node that doesn't produce any items or liquids, and therefore don't allow the placement of Portable Miners on them.
  • Geothermal Generators can only be turned off by a power trip or by disconnecting the connected Power Line, as they lack a standby switch.

History[edit | edit source]

  • Unknown patch between Patch 0.3.7 and Patch 0.3.8.0: Renamed from Geo Thermal Generator to Geothermal Generator
  • Patch 0.3.3.1: Fixed a bug where some Geysers were still not usable
  • Patch 0.3.3.0: Geothermal Generators should be buildable on Geysers again
  • Patch 0.3.2.0: Updated and optimized the Geyser idle and burst VFX
  • Patch 0.3: Geysers now show just "Geyser" instead of "Geyser cannot be picked up! (Normal)" when approached
  • Patch 0.2.1.19: Geyser placement issue in Desert Canyons resulting in ‘Floor is too steep’ when trying to build should be fixed
  • Patch 0.1.5: Changed crafting costs from 25 Cable, 4 Heavy Modular Frame, and 20 Rubber to 30 Cable, 8 Heavy Modular Frame, and 50 Rubber
  • Patch 0.1.10: Fixed an invalid Geyser
